2022 Vins El Cep Cava L'Azinar Brut Nature Reserva - Biodynamic

This biodynamic traditional method brut-nature Cava is a refreshing bone-dry sparkling wine made from 50% Xarel-lo, 25% Macabeo and 25% Parella hailing from the slopes of Espiells, Catalonia.

Vins El Cep brings together four winemaking families with deep roots in the region. Wine has been produced on these estates since at least 1488, and the winery’s home at Can Llopart de les Alzines, in the hills of Espiells in El Penedès, dates to 1499. Today, the estate draws on five generations of tradition, culture and expertise. Respect for the local environment and regional tradition sits at the heart of the project. The winery gained organic certification in 2001, began converting to biodynamics in 2003, and released its first biodynamic wines in 2006.

Made from fruit from old vines grown following biodynamic practices (planted between 1958-1990). Head- and wire-trained at around 3,600 vines per hectare, they balance yield with grape quality. Moderately deep soils, with porous flint and limestone subsoils, give the wine its distinctive mineral character. Hand-harvested grapes are gently pressed, using only 50% free-run juice, then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and aged on lees for at least 24 months.

Tasting Note: A clean, fresh Brut Nature Cava with crisp acidity, green apple aromas and gentle mineral nuances. Youthful yet precise, it offers a well-defined mouthfeel and impressive complexity.
