If Rías Baixas isn’t an immediately familiar name, that could be because this area of Galicia, in northwest Spain, is a relatively young entrant to the wine market, established as a DO (Denominación de Origen) only in 1988. It’s also an area that tends towards smaller family-run vineyards rather than larger commercial ones, so its products have never been widely available on supermarket shelves in the UK.
If you’re into white wine, this is an area that’s well worth checking out. Its focus is almost solely on the albariño grape, which accounts for more than 90% of the area’s planting. This fresh white has a hint of citrus and sea breeze, and we’ve selected some of the best for you to try in the Vineking Rías Baixas range.
