On the slopes of Monte Aquilaia in southern Scansano, Ghiaccio Forte’s vineyards benefit from the mix of a Mediterranean climate tempered by cool breezes coming from the surrounding mountains. These are perfect conditions for growing sangiovese grapes (which make up the bulk of production) along with syrah, cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot.
In a nod to the traditions of the Maremma region, the winery’s name refers to the ancient Etruscan city where evidence has been found of winemaking from many centuries ago. Looking towards the future, Ghiaccio Forte began the process of converting to organic methods in 2020, aiming to achieve certification in 2023.
