----------------------------------------
Knightor, based on the south Cornish coast, make premium quality, limited production English wines from grapes grown in English vineyards. Their vines are low yielding but the resulting wines are light and elegant with a great depth of flavour, and are always an excellent pairing with seafood.
Unfortunately, the Trevannion from Knightor can't be produced every year due to it needing certain grape variety characteristics and a good acidity in the grape. The 2019 vintage, however, was a perfect year for production! A blend of Siegerrebe, Schonberger and Muller thurgau grapes. The Trevannion is a pale green wine with intense perfumed aromas of rose petal, lychee and citrus zest. A delicious citrusy palate with a characteristic spiciness to finish. Medium bodied and smooth, with an off dry finish and great length.
Pale alabaster white, and as the back label suggests, perfumed notes of roses and lychees. I was expecting something quite simple and acidic but this is remarkable! It has a precisely judged drop of residual sugar which beautifully balances the clouds of white fruit and petals on the palate, as well as the sherbet-dipped blade of grapefruit acidity underpinning fresh, tissue-paper-fine white fruit. Gauzy spices. This took me by complete surprise. This is a deceptively complex little wine delivering subtlety and graceful pleasure. (TC) 17 points Jancisrobinson.com
