Het Anker Brewery is a Flemish brewery in Mechelen founded in 1471. The brewery was renamed "Gouden Carolus" after Charles V in the 1960s. Crowned World's Best Dark Ale at the 2012 World Beer Awards, Gouden Carolus Classic pours deep red and viscous with sweet notes of raisin, toffee and chocolate; a must try for those who like their beer powerful and warming. Rich and complex, and like many dark beers it will improve with age. Gouden Carolus Classic won a Gold Medal at the World Beer Awards 2015 in the category Belgium - Belgian Style Strong.
