2020 Rall Wines Rall Red

Donavan Rall is one of the key figures in South Africa’s ‘New Wave’ movement. As one of the original ‘garagista’ producers in Swartland, Rall now proudly crafts some of the most highly sought-after wines in the country.

Rall takes a natural approach to winemaking, encouraging spontaneous fermentations of often whole bunches of grapes with no additives or adjustments, in used oak and concrete to allow the fruit to take centre stage in all the blends. The resulting wines are beautifully textured wine of elegance and grace.

The Rall Red is a Mediterranean inspired blend composed of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan. Sourced from various sites across the region, the hands-off approach to winemaking allows each parcel to develop naturally, before being assembled into the final blend. Packed with fragrant notes of violets, black plum, and blackberries, with crisp tannins and spicy notes of white pepper on the finish. Earthy and plush, there is a real depth here that would make this a beautiful match to a rich Ox-Tail Stew, or flavoursome vegetable tagine.
