Creekside opened in 1997 in Jordan, Ontario. The winery is run by a passionate team of industry veterans with decades of experience across the trade, combining serious expertise with a refreshingly relaxed style. The team of self-described “cork-dorks” love what they do, and have fun doing it. Its wines combine ripeness and concentration with lively acidity.
Decidedly non-conformist, Creekside welcomes dogs, keeps the barbecue ready, and encourages visitors to bring boots for vineyard tours.
Creekside have had a long history with the Syrah grape variety and first began extensively planting in the late 1990s. With each vintage, they have witnessed first-hand this grape’s enormous potential. Twenty-five years later, it is grape they are best known for, popular and versatile, this feisty little grape has garnered some of Creekside’s highest scores and awards of the years - awarded as best Ontario Wine in a blind competition of 120 Ontario producers at the Southern Ontario Sommeliers Association - and has given them the proud reputation as a pioneer in Canadian Syrah.
The Iconoclast bottlings represent some of the estate’s best Syrah, sitting just below Reserve level. Fermented in stainless steel tanks and small fruit bins, the wine was aged for 19 months in mostly older French oak, with a small proportion of Hungarian and American oak.
Tasting Note: Aromatic and generous, with black cherry, blackberry, plum, dried herbs, black pepper, and a touch of tobacco. Full-bodied and bold, it offers ripe dark fruit, smoky spice, and firm tannins, finishing long and savoury.
