Hanewald-Schwerdt is a partnership between Thomas Hanewald and Stephan Schwerdt who have taken over the running of their family winery. Thomas and Stephan are members of ‘Generation Riesling’ a body made up of the best young winemaking talent in Germany. The entry level wines aim to show off pure varietal character, while the village wines are all hand picked from individual soil types. The single vineyard wines demonstrate the highest levels of quality that each site and variety can produce.

The ripe grapes were picked by hand and went into oak barrels after pressing. 500l and 225l barrels are used. Fermentation takes place inside of the barrels. The wine inside of the smaller 225l barrels is replaced into stainless steel tanks after ten weeks. The parts in 500l barrels stay inside of the barrels. They avoid a malolactic fermentation to keep a lively acidity. After 12 month the two Pinot Blanc parts are blended and bottled. The third time used 500l french oak barrels still influence the wine a bit.

Flavours of ripe yellow stone fruits supported by nuances of herbs, yeast and tobacco. Juicy and kind of earthy with a nice structure in the mouth. Rich body with a lively acidity.
