"An accomplished Douro blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, aged for 12 months in new French oak. Intense, harmonious. perfumed aromatics: black berries and black cherry with top notes of violet. There's impressive depth of black fruit on the palate, interlaced with spice, savoury and chocolate hints, plus freshness and a sense of minerality. Fine tannins with a framework that will ensure further evolution as this ages in bottle." - 92 points - Decanter
The Macedo Pinto family has a long history of viticulture in the Douro Valley with records dating back to 1755. Quinta do Espinho is devoted to the traditional grape varieties of the Douro Valley, with plantings of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz predominating. Since 1999, the winemaking has been under the guidance of Jean-Hugues Gros who has a wealth of winemaking experience from working in Burgundy, Champagne, California and the Douro.
Their Grande Reserva is intense and complex, with notes of black fruit, oak and floral. Beautifully balanced with fresh acidity, ripe tannins and long finish.
The Quinta do Espinho estate has been in the Macedo Pinto family for several generations, with the current management being in place for the last 30 years and turning it into one of the Douro region’s most respected red wine producers.
