Founded in 1990 by Martin’s father, Louis, the Clerc estate has its origins in a mixed farm. Louis wanted to be a vigneron and disliked vegetables, and so started bottling his own Côte-Rôtie. This varietal Viognier is an ode to Condrieu from the surrounding hills, steeply sloping and harvested into hand-pulled trolleys. Fermented in a mixture of stainless steel and old oak, the wine is rich and aromatic without being weighed down by new oak flavour. Peach and apricot dominate, with white flowers on the nose and a buttery texture. Pair boldly - dishes with egg, dairy, tahini, or anything else which often makes pairing with white wines difficult.
