Jadot is the quintessential Burgundian négociant – known for producing some of the region’s best value wines from grapes it buys from other growers, as well as owning and vinifying small parcels of the very best 1er and Grand Crus such as Corton-Charlemagne, Bonnes Mares and Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières. Founded in 1859, the Jadot family had already been making wine since the 18th century, and it was the son of the original Louis, Louis Baptiste, who began purchasing various plots of prestigious vineyard land in the region’s most famous locales. The company found huge success abroad in the 20th century, especially with wines from Beaujolais and the Mâcon. While still very much family-oriented, the estate has been owned by its US importer, Kobrand, since the 1980s. Their Saint-Romain is full of fresh white peach, blossom, and a touch of oak influence. Pair with light chicken dishes, fresh shellfish, or creamy cheeses.
