Catherine and Laurent, Eric Mari's parents, have both been from winemaking families for over 200 years. Settled on the Languedoc coast, they went to live in Algeria before returning to France in 1964 and founded Domaine la Prade Mari. Nowadays, Eric Mari runs the estate his parents founded.
Located in the Hérault part of the Minervois between Carcassonne, Béziers and Narbonne, the vineyard is planted on south and southeast clay loam slopes of eroded "mourels" in the middle of a sea of Mediterranean scrubland, Aleppo pines and olive trees.
The Conte de Garrigues explores the same themes as its little brother, Les Secret de Fontenilles. Made from a blend of 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah. This is much more powerful and complex, with notes of black fruit, spices and garrigue on the nose and the mouth, followed with a elegant, lengthy mouthfeel. With six years of maturity, this is drinking beautifully now. Serve with rich complex foods, slow roasted lanb shoulder, with all the herbs that you associate with the region - oregano, thyme, rosemary - la garrigues!
