This was a totally run-down property, bought by the Touchais family, now fully restored and planted. In February 2020, the Chateau Balac cuvée was rewarded with its classification at the level of Cru Bourgeois Superieur.
Unusually for the Left Bank, the planting is Merlot biased, 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and the wine enjoys 12 months in a mix of new, one, two and three year barrels. Deep cherry in colour, this is dark, earthy and fennel spiced, some herbal notes heightening a rather obvious come hither character.
Château Balac, classified Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, is the domain of the Touchais family, which took over the 10-hectare Haut-Médoc vineyard back in 1964.
