Brookdale Estate's winemaker Kiara Scott initially worked as assistant winemaker to renowned winemaker Duncan Savage where they brought to fruition the maiden vintage of the Brookdale Chenin Blanc 2017. This wine established Brookdale’s reputation as a producer of elegant wines with distinct character. Kiara was then appointed sole winemaker at Brookdale Estate in 2019 at the age of only 26, officially the youngest head female winemaker in South Africa.

The Brookdale Estate Chenin has a nose that displays notes of white flowers, dried citrus peel, stone fruit and hints of vanilla spice. The palate is complex and cleverly balances stone fruit with a mineral core. An elegant and refined vintage, with a beautiful rich texture, bright limey acidity finishes with a lingering aftertaste.

Tamlyn from Jancisrobinson.com 17.5

Full bottle 1,551 g. From 36-year-old vines, so the wine is certified 'old vine' under the South African old-vine scheme. On granitic soil and clay. Spontaneous fermentation in 500-litre French oak (mix of new and old). Aged on lees for 12 months.
NHB. Powdery, fragrant honeysuckle and jasmine with the sweetness of ripe white peach. Creamy, tingling, richly textured spread all over the palate. Apricots and avocado, matcha powder and tarragon and drippingly ripe white melon. A quiet tap-tap of pepper on the scalpel-fine, drawn-out finish. Elegant and beautifully composed. This is seriously classy, sophisticated-artisan Chenin. Don’t serve too cold – it was much better at around 14 °C (57 °F) than chilled. (TC)
