Avignonesi are one of Tuscany's best wine producer. Striving for excellence at Avignonesi goes hand in hand with experimenting with 100% Tuscan wine-making processes. Avignonesi was purchased in 2009 by Virginie Saverys, who has brought significant changes to the winery. She has worked tirelessly to convert the entire property to organic and biodynamic viticulture, with the clear goal of crafting distinct, genuine wines that fully express the singular characteristics of the Avignonesi terroir.

This case contains one each bottle:

2021 Avignonesi Da Di Toscana Sangiovese IGT (James Suckling - 91 points)
For this particular wine, Avignonesi has put aside steel and oak in favour of Tuscan clay. Da-Di is vinified in 13 terracotta vessels made in Tuscany. The wine is then blended after three months, then returned to the amphora for an additional two months ageing before bottling.

Nose with intense and fascinating, precise and varietal aromas. Notes of cherry, ripe raspberries and currants are harmoniously intertwined with nuances of wild strawberry. Viscous, dense, vibrant and explosive on the palate. The red fruits, morello cherries and black cherries, straightforward and sincere, come back to the palate and fill it with bright colours. The well-present tannin spreads out on the lips thus recalling the real and tenacious Sangiovese from Tuscany. The finish is the highest point of the encounter between freshness and sweetness, a combination that only terracotta wine can offer.

2019 Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (James Suckling - 92 points)
100% Sangiovese. The wine is ages for at least 18 months in Slavonian oak barrels, oak barriques and tonneaux (500 ltr.) followed by at least 6 months in bottles.

The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano shows intense garnet red reflections. On the nose aromas of small red fruits, strawberries and currants. Then pomegranate and the unmistakable violet scent of good Sangiovese. In the background a touch of vanilla, sweet spices and liquorice. The palate is well balanced with hints of ripe cherries and plums, supported by precise and elegant tannins. The body is warm and enveloping with a long and persistent finish.

2019 Avignonesi Desiderio Merlot (James Suckling - 93 points)
Desiderio was a bull which lived on Avignonesi’s Capezzine farm more than one hundred years ago. The largest bull in Tuscanyat that time, this majestic animal helped define the Chianina cattle race, specific to the Bistecca Fiorentina. It came as a natural choice to dedicate this Merlot to the beloved bull as a testimony to the wines’ origin. This is Merlot from Tuscany at its best and one of Avignonesi's top wines.

The wide aromatic bouquet ranges from cherry and plum jam to notes of black tea, rhubarb, and graphite, and final touches of cardamom. The entrance is bursting. On the palate it is enveloping and deep, accompanied by a silky and linear tannin typical of the structure of Tuscan Merlot. Tastefully juicy and in symbiosis with the olfactory notes, it gives notes of coconut and black pepper in the aftertaste.
