Stéphane Ogier is one of the most progressive winemakers in Côte Rôtie. His impressive new winery is situated just to the south of Ampuis and features 24 new tanks of varying sizes dedicated solely to his range of Côte Rôtie parcels, allowing him to vinify each plot separately. The character of each parcel determines the level of destemming, which as a result ranges from 0-100%.
Stéphane continues to source one year-old Burgundy barrels from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, as well as buying new oak casks from the tonnelleries of Taransaud and Saury.
In 2018, Stéphane picked late, seeking full phenolic ripening, and has been rewarded with a fantastic range of rich, succulent wines that rival his amazing 2017s.
From a hillside sandwiched between the Condrieu and Co?te Ro?tie appellations, planted by Ste?phane’s father Michel in the 1980s. The viognier grapes are vinified in a mixture of 228 litre oak barrels, 600 litre demi-muids, 1700 litre foudres and stainless steel vats.
This wine is ripe and aromatic, a lovely fresh example of the viognier grape variety with beautiful, peachy fruit and a soft, generous texture. Drink 2020-2022.
