The Coursodon family have been making exceptional Saint Joseph for four generations from 16 hectares of organic vineyards surrounding the town of Mauves. Pierre Coursodon’s son, Jérôme, now runs this famous estate and in less than ten years has taken it to new heights. Red wines of increased richness and purity have resulted from lowering yields, picking later and 100% destemming.
An increasing proportion of the red wines are aged in 600 litre casks rather than the traditional, smaller (225 litre) barrels, which maximises their fruit flavours. Meanwhile, their white Saint Josephs have become some of the finest white wines of the northern Rhône.
Produced from a single plot of 60 year-old vines in the village of Saint Jean de Muzols, immediately to the north of Tournon. 100% destemmed and aged in a mixture of 20% new oak barrels and demi-muids. Rich and full-bodied, this is an elegant wine with great depth and concentration. Drink 2023-2029.
