Four siblings, Sylvie, Florence, Corine and Sébastien, now manage this excellent domaine, which was founded by their parents, Robert and Yvette Michelas, in 1961. The estate has vineyards that cover over 50 hectares of the northern Rhône, including a substantial holding in the Crozes- Hermitage appellation. The vines are planted in a variety of soils including granite, clay, pebbles and shale, situated in the villages of Larnage, Mercurol, Beaumont-Monteux and Pont de L’Isère.
The youngest of the Michelas children, Sébastien, manages the vineyards. He ensures that yields are kept under control by the sparing use of fertiliser, strict winter pruning and a green harvest in summer if necessary. Leaves are removed in late summer to allow the sun to reach the fruit and improve ventilation.
In 2018 much of the crop was picked at night or in the early morning in order to preserve the maximum of fruit and freshness.
From two vineyards, Chasselie?re and Carolyn, in the villages of Chassis and Larnage respectively, which are home to some of the estate’s oldest vines (45 years). Fermented and aged in both small, oak vats and 3 year old demi-muids and pièces. Rich and generous, this has additional depth and concentration. Fine, ripe tannins will ensure its longevity. Hermitage quality at a Crozes price. Drink 2023-2028.
