2017 Sancerre Blanc Croq'caillotte, Dom. Emile Balland, Loire, France

Emile Balland inherited this basically vertical vineyard from his grandfather, who had neglected it for forty years because of how ridiculously difficult it is to work. Nonsense! Emile exclaimed (possibly in French) - such a steep vineyard has excellent drainage and will make a very fine wine! And, of course, he was absolutely right.
Impeccable balance and finesse showing classic mineral lead, elegant fruit, this is a brilliant cut-grass style of Sancerre. Absolutely typical to the style – drink now with elegant fish or as a charming aperitif.
