2017 Marselan Reserve Bodega Garzon Maldonado Uruguay

Marselan is an interesting grape variety that only came about in 1961 through the cross of Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache Noir.  It was designed to cope with both wet and dry growing conditions and deals well with the high level of Uruguayan rain fall.

Fermented in cement tanks and then aged 6–12 months on lees in French oak barrels.  Beautifully dark again in the glass, with rich, intense dark fruits with a super sense of terroir underneath.  A terrific sense of concentration but balanced again with wonderful savoury notes and supple tannins.  Drinking well know but will age happily a further five years.  Try this with a lovely aged ribeye steak or duck breast, as something a little fatty will work well with the wines vibrancy.
