This estate is named after a famous French race horse of the 1960s; Rocquépine, a favourite of winemaker Pascal Lafond’s father. The current winery was constructed in the 1970s and has been considerably extended over the years as the domaine has expanded to its current 85 hectares. The whole estate is worked organically, without the use of chemical pesticides or herbicides. All the grapes are hand harvested and destemmed before fermentation. The wines are fermented in stainless steel vats and then aged in a mixture of small oak barrels and larger foudres with Seguin-Moreau the cooperage of choice.
The Liracs are serious wines at a brilliant price, whilst the Châteauneuf regularly ranks amongst the finest of the appellation.
"50% Grenache, 50% Syrah. The grenache suffered from poor flowering so 2017 sees a greater proportion of syrah in the blend. Red cherries and raspberries with a hint of spice on the nose. Concentrated and round on the palate with good structure and length on the finish. Drink 2019-2022."
