2016 Chateau Grange Cochard Morgon Vieilles Vignes, Beaujolais, France

Ch. Grange Cochard shares many of the same features as established first class vineyards in other places - a long history, superb vineyards planted between 40 and 100 years ago, an ecologically sustainable footing and - crucially - careful and committed owners who have invested fully in their project.

Sarah & James Wilding have done just that - upped sticks, bought the run-down and ailing property in 2008, invested a heap of cash and really started to show off the stellar qualities of the superb old vineyard. With eight hectares of the best land in Morgon, they are nowadays producing some of the finest wine in Beaujolais.

The Veilles Vignes comes from their older vines across the estate. Displaying an elegant nose of pure raspberry and strawberry, the wine continues with lashings of fresh fruit with a fine tannin structure and fresh minerality. This is a superb summer red, equally happy by itself or chilled to take the edge off the summer sun!
