Château de Lussac was founded in 1876 and has been the property of Mme G Laviale-Van Malderen and her husband Hervé since the 2000 vintage. The vineyard, like the winemaking equipment has been refurbished. And today Chateau de Lussac produces some of the best wines in the Saint Emilion region, on a terrain of clay and loam.
The 2006 vintage is a blend of 77% Merlot and 23% Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged in 50% new French oak barrels and 50% used French oak for around 16 months.
This mature wine is drinking excellently right now and we were all very impressed with it upon tasting. The nose is rich and complex with the aroma of roasted nuts and ripe dark fruits emerging into aromas of toast, dried berries, pepper and black cherry. The palate is silky and round and works with a balanced structure and a hint of black fruit. The finish is long and persistent.
