2018 Mount Barker Riesling, Harewood Estate 6x75cl

Just last week Ben put this excellent Riesling on the bar at East Molesey. It was superb, an intense wine balanced between the floral and citrus notes with an underlying spicy vibrancy and enough minerality & saline elements to keep it fresh and vigorous.

After tasting, I couldn’t resist looking it up in Halliday:

2014 Mt Barker Riesling – 93

2015 Mt Barker Riesling – 94

2016 Mt Barker Riesling – 96

2017 Mt Barker Riesling – 95

2018……. Not yet rated!

After tasting the 2018 I am absolutely certain that in the near future this will recieve an equally glowing report.

This marvellous, zingy, intensely drinkable wine will be happy for five years or more.

Harewood Estate

James Kellie (formerly of Howard Park) has had extraordinary success in a relatively short time, winning trophies galore and for 10 consecutive years the elusive 5 red star rating (the highest recognition possible from James Halliday’s Wine Companion awarded to Australia’s top 5% of wineries for  “a consistent record of excellence”.).

From the winemaker: “The grapes for this wine were sourced from a single vineyard in the Mount Barker sub region of Western Australia’s Great Southern wine region.  Only the finest, more pristine, “free-run” juice was used in the production of this wine resulting in a palate of outstanding finesse, free from the harsh, phenolic characters and deeper colours associated with grape pressings. A long, cool ferment in stainless steel tanks, minimal fining and the use of screw caps are all further steps towards capturing the inherent delicacy of this cool climate variety.”
