Storm Wines by Red

Storm Wines is run by Hannes and Nathalia Storm, a husband-and-wife team who set the company up in 2008 after 12 years of working with pinot noir and chardonnay grapes in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (which means ‘Heaven-and-Earth’ in Afrikaans), near the coastal town of Hermanus.

The Hemel-enAarde region (which is divided into three smaller winegrowing wards) is an outstanding cool-climate winegrowing area, with a maritime climate influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, moderate summer winds and a higher-than-average rainfall that protects the vines from drought even in generally dry years.

The new company came about when Hannes came across two small plots with particularly exceptional terroirs and decided to plant them up with pinot noir vines. Storm’s first vintage was produced in 2012, with the wines being released 18 months later after bottle aging.

Today, the company handcrafts both pinot noir and chardonnay wines from its various plots around the Hemel-en-Aarde area, always working to extract the purest character from each harvest. To achieve this, they employ a careful viticulture process and aim only for small production amounts.
