NV Lete-Vautrain Champagne, Brut 204

This is a Champagne from a small producer with vineyards based around the town of Thierry and neighbouring village Essomes-sur-Marne. They farm from only 8 hectares. Lete Vautrain’s Brut 204 is a blend of 50% Pinot Meunier, 25% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir.

First Course

2018 Pouilly-Fuisse, Domaine Ludovic Greffet

This wine shows great depth of ripe stone fruit as well and refreshing lemon citrus flavour. It is rich and round with buttery character and a flinty minerality.

Second Course

2019 Chocolate Block, Boekenhoutskloof

The nose is a compote of dark fruit with an abundance of perfume and savoury whiffs of cured meat, black olives and cigar box. The palate of The Chocolate Block shows red and dark berry fruit with flavours of ripe, red plums, blueberries, black cherries and tar evident on the mid-palate. The violets and spice of the nose follows through with a vibrant acidity and smooth, fleshy texture. Blackberries and liquorice linger in the mouth with hints of dark chocolate and sweet tobacco.

2016 Domaine de Grange Neuve Monbazillac

This is a fabulous dessert wine with a well deserved reputation. It's a blend of three grape varieties, Sémillon, Sauvignon and a little Muscadelle. An extremely elegant wine from the home of dessert wines Monbazillac. The naturally occurring sugar results in it being sweet, but not overtly so. It is unctuously luscious with a great backbone of fine acidity for a fresh finish.
