2008 Bourgogne Pinot Noir Vielles Vignes, Bertrand Ambroise, Burgundy, France

Made from a single plot of forty-five year old vines just at the back of Ambroise's house in Premeaux-Prissey, this is a little cracker every year. This exact strip is the wrong side of the fence from the slope of Nuits-Saint-Georges, but it lies on a long ridge of higher ground, giving it a superb weight for a Bourgogne.

Ambroise has always made his wines for ageing. They are all powerful wines with excellent tannins which mean that in a hot year such as 2008, the ripe fruit has aged into a delicious mix of black currants, brambles and heady compote. Tannins are now very soft and elegantly holding the wine together.

It's fantastic to offer a parcel of such superb mature Burgundy from a top producer who we come back to again and again, this stock will be with us for midway through the Autumn.
