Italian Monviert

Located in Friuli · Italy

Monviert is a word that means ‘open mountain’ in the Friulian language, and it’s the name given to a wine that represents its makers’ love for their land, the Colli Orientali del Friuli.

It comes from the name of a small church built on top of a hill in 1522, giving an incredible ‘open’ view of the Colli Orientali. That church nows watches over the 87 hectares of the family’s vineyard, which produces some interesting and expressive wines.

This place of devotion and source of refreshment for pilgrims makes a fitting symbol for a winery, and has been restored by the family to ensure it can continue to be part of the area’s cultural heritage.
