Corvina Montresor

Located in Veneto · Italy

The story of Montresor could almost be said to be more of a family saga, starting with Count Claude de Montresor fleeing to the Haute-Savoie region before heading to the hills around Lake Garda.

Happily settled in the Veneto region since 1892, when Giacomo Montresor first established the winery, the modern incarnation is a sustainable and eco-conscious business that has recently been involved in the MAGIS project, which aims to introduce environmentally sound practices without any loss of quality.

This is the latest pioneering project from a winery that has always pushed the boundaries of accepted practice. Montresor was one of the first wineries in the Verona area to start bottling its wines, and was also among the early adopters of the Charmat method of creating sparkling wines.

The winery has expanded hugely over the years, with several Italian wineries under its umbrella and a huge cellar in Parona di Valpolicella with a production capacity of 3.5 million bottles a year. Montresor was one of the first Italian producers to export to the USA just after World War II, and now the company exports to around 55 countries around the world, with about 60% of its wines going into international markets.
