I put a box together to take to my folks (after lockdown!) I looked down and these were the 3 wines I selected. Every proper evening should start with a fizz, the Taltarni is remarkably good. If the sun shines you just want a rose, and the Grandpre delivers for less money than its branded freinds. Then cracking Loire Sauvignon. I had a good weekend and so will you upon choosing this case.
Two each of the following:
2013 Tache Rose Taltarni
A pale salmon colour, this sparkling has hints of strawberry and rose water on the nose, which is balanced beautifully by an array of bread crust and nuts from its time on yeast lees. On the palate, the strawberry is driven by a creamy texture and succulent acidity, which finishes the wine with lovely elegance. This wine is the epitome of a méthode-traditionnelle rosé sparkling wine from Australia’s best cool-climate regions.
2019 Cuvee Favorite Rose Domaine de Grandpre
Nicely rounded, dry summer fruit flavours with soft minerality. This is an easy glugger of a great rosé
2018 Les Beaux Jours Coteaux du Giennois Blanc Domaine Emile Balland
The relatively unknown region of Coteaux du Giennois with both chalky and flinty soils resembling Sancerre, allows for inexpensive wines that deliver surprising amounts of complexity and concentration.
