Summer and Red Wine is often something which is done wrong - either people switch totally to white or they go straight for heavy, peppery shiraz to go with a decent barbeque. These are the other sides of Summer Reds - for drinking.
Two each of the following:
2018 Barbera Tenuta Del Melo
This is one of our happiest (and most recent) finds. We've stocked del Melo's excellent Gavi for some years, and upon hearing that they did a Barbera as well reckoned it was worth a shot. We were right: utterly correct black fruit with spicy edges, this is a mid-weight wine with mouth-watering acidity and an excellent body. Love it.
2018 Secret de Fontenille Domaine La Prade Mari
Eric Mari has a lot to answer for - crimes against beards for one (he is no longer known as Hairy Eric). Instead he's more properly known as the superb backwoodsman of the Garrigue, making little numbers like this in the Minervois. This is grenache-carignan & friends, warm, plush and with spicy fruit punched through it. It's a little belter, and definitely one of the strongest wines at this price point. And, with it's overtures of the kind of meals Peter Mayle describes in a Year in Provence, deliciously summery.
2018 Zweigelt Brillant Weingut Ecker-Eckhof Wagram
Ecker-Eckhof is a family affair in the beautiful Wagram district, in a region known primarily for Gruner-Veltliner They don't make much red but luckily they do make this one: dark berries and cherry, with a great spicyness. Try this with a curry - it absolutely rocks.
Please note - to get your wines to you as fast as possible, we will will substitute out of stock lines in our mixed cases for one of equal value, drinkability and deliciousness.
