La Barbe wines are produced at Château de Barbe, where vineyards have been in existence since the 14th century. This beautiful Bourgeais estate is on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, facing Margaux and with stunning views all around.

The original château was owned by the Marquis de Barbe until 1774, but was then burned down during the French Revolution and rebuilt in the neoclassical style by architect Victor Louis, around the same time that he designed the Grand Theatre de Bordeaux. Ownership stayed in the family of Count Savary de Beauregard until 1993, when the Richard family purchased the estate.

The estate’s 66 terraced hectares experience a microclimate governed by the proximity of the river, and careful management of the growing and winemaking processes bring out the true characters of the grapes grown here. Full-bodied and elegant wines are marked by floral notes and a hint of fresh berries, with well developed tannins.
