Hanewald-Schwerdt

Located in Pfalz · Germany

Hanewald-Schwerdt’s wines are created by cousins Thomas Hanewald and Stephan Schwerdt, supported by several family members and an experienced winery team.

This vineyard covers two contrasting locations – one in the mountains north of Bad Dürkheim, with limestone-based soil, and another further south near Deidesheim and Ruppertsberg, with warmer sandstone soils. This allows them to experiment with a range of regional and international grape varieties while also maintaining a focus on native varieties Riesling and Pinot Noir.

There is a strong belief here that the character of a finished wine is shaped in the vineyard, so the main focus here is on nurturing the grapes and selecting the best fruit. This results in fairly low yields, which go through careful processing to create handcrafted, predominantly dry wines that make great companions for food or can be laid in storage successfully.
