Chenin Blanc Chateau de Plaisance

Located in Loire · France

Château de Plaisance, in the heart of Anjou Noir, is something of a rarity for its area, as it focuses almost entirely on just one grape variety: chenin blanc. A smattering of other varieties complete the picture for young winemaker Vanessa Cherruau, who took over the vineyard in 2019 on a quest to create elegant and complex wines that ‘reach the soul’.

When 32-year-old Cherruau took over, she became the latest chapter in the tale of a terroir dating back over several centuries. The previous owners, the Rochais family, had been in place since 1960, converting the site to organic farming in 1995 and then adopting biodynamic processes in 2008.

A similar gentle and thoughtful process remains in place now – there are no rules other than observation, with techniques and approaches being adapted to each plot and each individual crop.
