2016 Morgon 'Les Charmes', Chateau Grange Cochard, Beaujolais, France

Ch. Grange Cochard shares many of the same features as established first class vineyards in other places - a long history, superb vineyards planted between 40 and 100 years ago, an ecologically sustainable footing and - crucially - careful and committed owners who have invested fully in their project.

Sarah & James Wilding have done just that - upped sticks, bought the run-down and ailing property in 2008, invested a heap of cash and really started to show off the stellar qualities of the superb old vineyard. With eight hectares of the best land in Morgon, they are nowadays producing some of the finest wine in Beaujolais.

The Charmes comes from a single 100 year old vineyard plot on the estate. Lightly oaked with vanilla accents, rich with strawberries and raspberries on the palate, generous and silky, underpinned with well-structured tannins. Again, this will chill down perfectly or drink at room temperature.
