Located just south of St-Julien, Chateau Lamothe Bergeron is two hundred years old and was inherited by Jacques de Bergeron in the 18th Century. A politician, he escaped the guillotine but was exiled to his country estate by the French Revolution in 1796 and became a noted expert on vines, inventing new methods of grafting vines to rootstock which were still in use a century later. The domain is situated on the ‘motte’ (or plot of high land) referenced in the name. It was sold to Cognac H. Mounier and Hardy in 2009. Today, Mery Laurent is in charge helped by Hubert de Boüard, co-owner of Chateau Angelus, who advise Lamothe Bergeron.

The 2014 is a charming vintage, borne up by wonderful freshness with blackcurrant and red fruit notes and a hugely ample richness. The finish is elegant and consistent with what this estate is all about.
