Founded just after the second World War, Cantina Sampietrana took advantage of the economic and social changes to that part of Italy. Puglia was at that time a landscape of large landowners with a number of smaller farmers and the growth of the idea of the cooperative was to create a more mixed market – which Sampietrana thrived in, utilising a blend of native grapes and new technologies and ideas in agriculture to grow.
Their Vigna delle Monache Salice Salentino Riserva is made from selected Negroamaro grapes and aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. Ruby red with violet tones, intense nose of ripe red berry fruits with a hint of vanilla and toasted notes on the firm dry ending. This superb wine works well with anything that has seen a tomato but also with strong cheeses.
